Get Onboard with Hygge

Hygge (hue • guh) is a Danish word describing the feeling of being cozy and content. Hygge happens when you're doing hyggeligt (hygge-like) things.

The term Hygge originated in Denmark because Scandinavia although beautiful, is dark and damp and cold for much of the year. So while much of the world is enjoying bright sun and warm breezes, the Danes needed a way to feel that same happiness and fulfillment in their part of the world. The outcome was thinking of life as a beautiful art form to be purposefully curated, enjoyed, and shared with others. And so hygge was born.

A short list of ways to experience hygge

  • Lighting candles
  • Cooking meals from scratch with close friends
  • Sitting around a crackling fire under a wool blanket
  • Sipping on fresh hot coffee from a simple clay cup
  • Taking a peaceful hike through the forest

What we have found is rain or shine, having some hygge in your life is instrumental in finding happiness. Hygge is not only for the Danish, or Scandinavian.  Hygge can be experienced anywhere and by anyone. Thank you Danes for setting up a hygge framework to share with the world because a hygge life is a WONDERFUL life, and I'm never going back.
